The Nigerian Airforce announced on Friday that its Air Component of Operation Delta Safe executed reconnaissance missions targeting the Kolo Creek trunkline and Soku Sambarth lines.
These operations resulted in the destruction of canoes and illegal sites at Obenibokiri in Rivers State.
In a Friday statement, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, noted that the crew’s inspection of the pipeline’s Right of Way revealed no signs of breaches.
He reported that midway along the pipeline, a leak was detected, with individuals suspected to be oil company staff attempting repairs.
Further patrols towards the pipeline’s end showed no evidence of illegal activities.
The statement mentioned that the aircraft continued to Soku-Sambarth, where they identified the Soku Gas station and conducted additional scans of the area, again finding no illegal activities.
However, on the return trip, the crew observed and destroyed six canoes loaded with suspected stolen oil products.
“Flying overhead Obenibokiri, a settlement about 15 Km away from Port Harcourt, the crew spotted 8 active Illegal Refining Sites with overhead tanks and one with over 300 piled up sacks containing suspected stolen oil products. These were all effectively destroyed,” the statement added.
