The Nigerian Air Force has launched a series of airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts in Borno State, killing multiple insurgents and demolishing their logistics, weapons, and vehicles.
The strikes, carried out on March 26, 2025, were focused on Warawara, near Wajiroko, and Chinene in the Mandara Mountains.
According to a statement by the NAF Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the operation was based on intelligence indicating that terrorists were stockpiling supplies and planting Improvised Explosive Devices in Wajiroko.
“In our sustained efforts to combat terrorism in the North-East, the Nigerian Air Force executed multiple waves of air interdiction missions, delivering devastating strikes on insurgent strongholds,” Ali said.
The operation commenced after surveillance tracked the terrorists moving stockpiles of ammunition and fuel to a hidden location.
NAF fighter jets launched the first wave of attacks, destroying gun trucks and supply caches. This was followed by a second round of strikes using rockets and cannon fire to eliminate any remaining threats.
The air force then turned its focus to Chinene in the Mandara Mountains, where intelligence reports suggested that insurgents had relocated following an earlier attack on Degbewa on March 16.
Aerial reconnaissance confirmed the presence of active terrorist hideouts, prompting another round of airstrikes that set their shelters ablaze.
“Fleeing insurgents were engaged and neutralized, further crippling their operational capacity,” Ali stated.
The air force’s battle damage assessment confirmed that the strikes eliminated a significant number of terrorists and destroyed key assets, including four gun trucks, two Toyota Hilux vehicles, and several makeshift shelters.
“These successful missions underscore the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to eliminating insurgents, disrupting their logistics networks, and preventing them from establishing safe havens,” Ali added.
He assured that NAF remains steadfast in its mission to restore peace and security in the region through sustained aerial operationsp against terrorist groups.
