A Fallen fuel-laden tanker has brewed up tension among the residents and commuters, plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on Sunday.
Reports revealed that the tanker fell under the pedestrian bridge at Owode local government area of Ogun State, Ibafo section of the road on Sunday morning.
A source told The Punch Metro that the fallen tanker has caused standstill traffic, which has backlogged the long bridge section of the road.
Similarly, the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident, noting that it has caused serious traffic, along the route.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, disclosed that the traffic outward Lagos, stretched ao the long bridge, “due to the nature of the content” of the fallen tanker.
“The inward Lagos section is also having its share of the traffic jam. This is attributable to the activities of some impatient drivers who took to driving against the flow of traffic from all available exit points on the expressways,” Okpe confirmed.
According to her, all hands are on deck, as the corps awaiting the arrival of an empty tanker transload the content in the fallen tanker before it can be made removed from the road.
Okpe, who assured the residents in the area, as well as the motorists, not to entertain any fear, revealed that FRSC operatives are on the reground managing the traffic situation, while the officials of the Fire Service are also working to keep the environment wet, to prevent possible ignition of the fire.
“All hands are on deck,” Okpe said, even as she warned road users to apply caution to avert explosions,” she said.
