A shocking case of alleged sex trafficking has surfaced in Delta State, Nigeria, involving a mother accused of forcing her 15-year-old daughter into exploitation.
According to The PUNCH, Eunice Asuelie was taken into custody by police for reportedly coercing her daughter, Esther (not her real name), into meeting a suspected sex trafficker at a hotel in Udu Local Government Area.
Human rights activist Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho revealed that Esther escaped her captor and sought refuge with a classmate’s family in Effurun.
“The young girl has since been placed in the care of Magareth Oghuvwu, proprietress of Triumphal Model School in Effurun,” Aghogho said.
“This case underscores the pervasive issue of human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria, where victims are often lured with false promises of employment or a better life.”
Delta State Police Command spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed Asuelie’s detention, stating, “The mother is being held at police headquarters, and we are investigating all individuals involved.”
The police have assured a thorough investigation, with Edafe emphasizing, “We will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind this disturbing case.”
The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and action against human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria.
