In a historic achievement, the Moroccan national women’s football team emerged victorious in a Women’s World Cup competition for the first time.
This momentous occasion was made possible by the early goal scored by Ibtissam Jraidi, which propelled Morocco to a remarkable 1-0 triumph over the South Korean team.
After suffering a resounding 6-0 defeat at the hands of Germany in their inaugural World Cup appearance, this hard-fought victory has revitalised Morocco’s improbable prospects of advancing to the round of 16 in the Australia and New Zealand tournament.
In addition to securing the first-ever victory for Morocco in the competition, a notable milestone was achieved when defender Nouhaila Benzina became the inaugural player to don a hijab at the Women’s World Cup.
“We are just so glad that our efforts paid off,” said the goal-scorer Jraidi.
“I would like to dedicate this victory to Morocco and all the Arab nations at large. It was the fruit of our hard work.”
