Morocco extended their flawless campaign in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a well-managed 2-0 win against Tanzania on Tuesday evening at Stade d’Honneur in Oujda.
This result marks their tenth consecutive victory, reinforcing their dominance in the competition.
Despite controlling possession in the first half, the Atlas Lions struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resilient Tanzanian defense.
However, their persistence paid off in the 51st minute when Nayef Aguerd seized an opportunity, converting a rebound after El Yamiq’s header from an Ezzalzouli corner was initially blocked.
The home side doubled their advantage just eight minutes later as Brahim Diaz calmly dispatched a penalty after Noussair Mazraoui was fouled in the box.
The Real Madrid midfielder’s precise strike effectively sealed the game for Morocco.
Even without their suspended star defender Achraf Hakimi, the hosts fielded a formidable lineup. Yassine Bounou guarded the goal, with Mazraoui, El Yamiq, Aguerd, and Belammari forming a solid defensive unit.
The midfield trio of Saibari, Amrabat, and El Khanouss controlled the game’s tempo, while Diaz, En-Nesyri, and Ezzalzouli spearheaded the attack.
Tanzania, under the guidance of coach Hemed Suleiman, displayed defensive discipline and created a rare opportunity in the 42nd minute when Salum’s volley narrowly missed Bounou’s post.
As the game progressed, Morocco made strategic substitutions, introducing Rahimi, Ben Seghir, and Ounahi to maintain attacking pressure.
Although Tanzania remained competitive, they found no way back into the match after falling behind.
This latest victory cements Morocco’s position at the top of Group E with a perfect record, having won all five of their qualifying matches.
Their path to the World Cup, set to take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, appears increasingly secure, as they aim for what would be their seventh appearance on football’s biggest stage.
With this win, Morocco wraps up the international window in dominant fashion, having previously edged past Niger 2-1 in another qualifier.
Their defensive stability remains a key strength, with just two goals conceded in their last five outings while netting an impressive 22 times.
