The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has underscored the importance of safeguarding and preserving the Sultanate institution within the country.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, stressed the historical significance of the Sultanate, which spans over two centuries, and urged politicians to focus on promoting good governance instead of undermining this venerable institution.
Othman-Ngelzarma expressed concern over alleged subtle threats to diminish the authority of the Sultan, who serves as the emblem of Islamic leadership in Nigeria.
He remarked, “We believe protecting and preserving the institution of the Sultanate is a cardinal responsibility of every right-thinking personality in the country.”
He called on the Sokoto State Government, particularly the legislature, to exercise caution and take necessary measures to safeguard and uphold the institution that embodies a crucial ideology.
Referencing media reports, Othman-Ngelzarma said, “Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria is worried by the media reports alleging that the Sokoto Government intends to whittle down the powers of his Eminence the Sultan, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III.”
MACBAN stands in firm support of the Sultan, as Othman-Ngelzarma highlighted, “because we believe he deserves better as he has shown the capacity to uphold justice and equity in all his dealings.”
He pointed to the Sultan’s efforts to promote religious and ethnic tolerance in Nigeria, noting, “His background as a military man, his resoluteness to speak the truth and his standing for the poor and underprivileged despite being an aristocrat makes him a model for leaders to emulate.”
