According to The PUNCH, this call to action comes following the adoption of recommendations put forth by a five-member ad hoc committee established by the House to address this critical matter.
The Assembly has specifically urged the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to intensify its ongoing inquiry into Dr. Baiyewu Abayomi, who stands accused of medical negligence in the case.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that justice prevails once the investigation reaches its conclusion.
The shocking incident took place at Obitoks Hospital, where Adebola Akin-Bright was operated on by Dr. Abayomi.
The inexplicable vanishing of the patient’s small intestine has raised serious questions about the quality of healthcare and oversight in the region.
The House has also highlighted the need for the Lagos State Government to bolster the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency to enhance the supervision of healthcare institutions within Lagos State.
This recommendation aims to strengthen the regulation of healthcare facilities to prevent future occurrences of such distressing incidents.
Furthermore, the House emphasized the importance of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital paying increased attention to patients, particularly children, during their stays in the tertiary healthcare facility.

Commending the prompt response of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command, the House noted the law enforcement agency’s compliance with the resolution issued on Monday, September 17, 2023.
This resolution led to the arrest of Dr. Baiyewu Abayomi, the Managing Director of Obitoks Hospital, in connection with this tragic case.
In a compassionate gesture, the House has called upon the Lagos State Government to provide support to Mrs. Abiodun Akin Bright, the mother of the late Adebola Akin-Bright, to assist her in covering the expenses incurred while attempting to save her son’s life during this harrowing ordeal.
