A tragic incident unfolded in central Indonesia as a woman was discovered dead inside a python’s belly, having been swallowed whole.
The victim, 45-year-old Farida, was found by her husband and villagers from Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province.
She had gone missing the previous night, prompting a search effort.
According to village head Suardi Rosi, Farida’s husband grew suspicious after finding her belongings. The search party then located a python with a visibly swollen belly, leading them to make the grim discovery by cutting open the snake.
Her husband “found her belongings… which made him suspicious. The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a large belly,” said Suardi.
“They agreed to cut open the python’s stomach. As soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible.”
Farida was found fully clothed inside the 16-foot-long python, highlighting the danger posed by reticulated pythons, which are known to grab their prey with sharp teeth before squeezing them to death and swallowing them whole.
While such incidents are rare, Indonesia has seen several fatalities involving pythons in recent years.
These snakes, which can grow over 20 feet long, are native to Southern Asia and have a reputation for aggressiveness. Despite this, they are occasionally kept as pets.
The tragic death of Farida serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by these formidable reptiles.
