The Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, has stepped in to address the ongoing conflict between the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force
According to The PUNCH, on June 4, after completing the recruitment process, the PSC released a list of 10,000 successful candidates for constable and specialist cadre roles in the Nigeria Police Force.
However, 11 days later, the NPF rejected this list, alleging that the recruitment was tainted by corruption and irregularities.
In a statement from the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, he said, “Several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply and therefore did not take part in the recruitment.”
Following this, the commission’s union demanded the removal of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing him of misrepresenting facts regarding the recruitment process.
The PSC responded by challenging the police to provide evidence to support their claims of corruption in the recruitment exercise.
On June 25, Head of the Press for the PSC, Ikechuckwu Ani emphasized that the final list of successful candidates would not be cancelled, insisting that the process was conducted according to the relevant laws.
Regarding the minister’s intervention, Bolaji Kazeem, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Police Affairs, stated on Friday that the minister was actively working to mediate between the two organizations and prevent the issue from escalating.
Kazeem remarked, “Minister working underground to resolve the issue between the two organisations. He doesn’t want the matter to go out of hand.”
