A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, destroying goods worth millions of naira at Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.
According to Vanguard, eyewitnesses reported that the fire at Ladipo Market started around 1 a.m., consuming several shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances.
Despite the intensity of the blaze, no casualties were recorded, according to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which confirmed that emergency responders successfully contained the inferno by 6 a.m.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations were deployed to Ladipo Market.
She noted that access challenges posed difficulties but commended the team for preventing the fire from spreading further.
“Our firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire despite difficulties in accessing the affected areas. Thankfully, it did not extend to nearby businesses,” Adeseye said.
Meanwhile, another fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market, affecting several shops dealing in metallic materials. Firefighters from Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations responded quickly and brought the situation under control by 5 a.m.
Adeseye assured the public that investigations would determine the cause of both incidents.
“No lives were lost, which is a relief. The causes of the fires will be investigated once we move into the damping-down stage,” she stated.
