MBH Power Limited has successfully generated a total of nine megawatts of electricity using compressed natural gas across Lagos State.
According to The PUNCH, the company’s Director, Rakesh Mahapatra, revealed this during a recent visit by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to MBH’s meter factory located in the Mowe area of Ogun State.
Mahapatra disclosed that MBH Power generated seven MW in Lekki and two MW in Ikorodu. He highlighted the company’s commitment to energy solutions, stating, “We have installed a capacity of 7MW in Lekki and 2MW in Ikorodu, all fully functional.”
He further explained that the company began its CNG operations in 2010, utilizing piped gas from Ikorodu to generate power for multiple factories in Lekki.
In addition to its CNG operations, MBH Power has expanded into solar energy, with a one-MW solar plant installed in Lagos through its subsidiary in India.
Mahapatra emphasized that MBH Power is a comprehensive energy solutions provider, involved in generation, transmission, metering, and renewables since its establishment in Nigeria in 2000.
The company has also made significant contributions to Nigeria’s power infrastructure, having completed over 40 substation projects for the Transmission Company of Nigeria since 2003.
Mahapatra noted that MBH Power has supplied transformers and constructed numerous distribution lines under the National Integrated Power Project and TCN.
Regarding the rising cost of prepaid meters, Mahapatra attributed the increase to the fluctuating foreign exchange rate, stating, “The cost of prepaid meters is directly impacted by the rising exchange rate, which has led to higher prices.”
During his visit, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressed his satisfaction with MBH Power’s contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector.
“I am highly impressed with what I saw on the ground. Thank you for supporting the activities of the government. I can promise you that the Ministry of Power and our agencies are going to work with you,” Adelabu remarked.
The meter factory in Ogun State, established by MBH Power in 2019, boasts an annual production capacity of 920,000 prepaid meters.
The company continues to play a vital role in addressing some of the challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector.
