France captain, Kylian Mbappé, has taken a significant step off the field by becoming the majority owner of Stade Malherbe de Caen, a club in France’s second division.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced this news on X on Tuesday.
“Kylian Mbappé has signed all the necessary documents to become the new owner of French side SM Caen,” Romano shared. “According to L’Équipé, everything is finalized, with Kylian acquiring 80% of the Ligue 2 club’s shares.”
This acquisition makes the 25-year-old the youngest active player to own a professional football club in Europe.
The newly signed Real Madrid player is set to invest approximately €15 million through his own Coalition Capital investment fund to acquire 80% of the club’s shares and will also help to settle some of the club’s debt.
Mbappé will be succeeding the American investment fund Oaktree as the majority shareholder, which had purchased 80% of the club’s shares in 2020.
The remaining 20% is held by Pierre Antoine Capton, the current president of the club’s supervisory board.
Having joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Mbappé is expected to spend €20 million to acquire an 80 percent stake in Caen from American investors Oaktree, as reported by Le Parisien on Monday.
“Barring a turn of events,” the daily stated, “Kylian Mbappé is set to become the majority shareholder of Stade Malherbe de Caen… within the next few hours.”
Pierre-Antoine Capton, chair of the club’s supervisory board, will retain the remaining capital.
Nonetheless, it will be Ziad Hammoud, former director of strategy and investment at beIN Media Group and
