Manchester United on Thursday agreed a £60million deal with Chelsea for the signing of Mason Mount.
The England midfielder is scheduled to have a medical at Old Trafford in the coming days. Also the overall final package comprises a £55 million upfront price and an additional £5 million in add-ons.
Mount is anticipated to agree to a five-year deal with United, who had been eyeing the 24-year-old as their first significant acquisition of the summer transfer season.
The highly regarded academy graduate’s contract at Stamford Bridge had entered its final year, and although discussions with co-owner Todd Boehly, an extension could not be reached.
Mount wanted to join United and would have left Chelsea for free in the summer if a deal couldn’t be made now.
United had seemingly given up after two failed bids for Mount and a third take-it-or-leave-it offer worth £55m was rejected last week.
Chelsea countered with an offer of £58m plus £7m in add-ons to their Premier League rivals, and they even proposed a face-to-face meeting to help move things along.
