One of the world’s leading Luxury fashion brands Louis Vuitton has on Tuesday announced the appointment of a U.S artist Pharrell Williams, as its menswear creative director.
This was captured in a tweet on its verified Twitter page. The post reads, “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.”
Acvording to WOMEN’S WEAR DAILY, it is a bold move that reinforced the brand’s positioning as a “cultural” brand.
The position was held by Virgil Abloh, but remained vacant after he died from cancer in 2021.
Pharrell Williams is an America artist and considered to be established in the music industry. He is 49, and has gotten 13 Grammy awards as well as two Oscar nominations.
He has over the years been in the fashion line and been a fixture in the front row of fashion shows
Meanwhile the sales of the French luxury brand surged higher since the Covid-19 and now worth over $20 billion. This record made the owner of its parent company LVMH, Bernard Arnault, the richest person in the world.
The French company had been content to continue riding the publicity Abloh’s three-year stay has produced, utilising his crew and visiting designers for recent exhibitions.
