Liverpool Football Club have bid farewell to a number of players, including fan favorites Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, as part of a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2024/25 season under new manager Arne Slot.
Matip and Thiago, whose contracts were set to expire, were given the opportunity to say their emotional goodbyes after Liverpool’s final game of the season against Wolves, which also marked Jurgen Klopp’s last match in charge.
In addition to Matip and Thiago, several academy players are also departing the club.
Adam Lewis and Melkamu Frauendorf, who both made their first-team debuts under Klopp, are among those leaving.
Mateusz Musialowski, who featured earlier in the season against Sparta Prague, is also set to depart, along with Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington.
A club statement expressed gratitude to all the departing players and wished them the best for their futures.
“Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Joel, Thiago, Adam, Melkamu, Mateusz, Nathan, Francis, Luke, Niall, and Cody for all their contributions and wishes them each the very best for the future,” the statement said.
Despite the departures, Liverpool is working on securing new deals for some players.
Spanish goalkeeper Adrian has been offered a contract extension, while academy goalkeepers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman are also in talks for extended stays at Anfield.
The club is now focusing on its summer transfer plans.
