The ELN guerilla group had held Luis Diaz’s father captive for 12 distressing days, while his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was also initially abducted on October 28 but was fortunately rescued shortly afterward. A rigorous search operation ensued for Diaz’s father until his recent release, reuniting the family upon the player’s return to Colombia for international duties.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Liverpool forward showcased resilience by scoring both goals in Colombia’s remarkable 2-1 victory over Brazil in a World Cup qualifying match.
As a testament to their support, Liverpool organized a private flight that touched down in England on Saturday, bringing Diaz’s parents and extended family to spend the holiday season in Merseyside. Diaz himself will join them after fulfilling his commitments with the Colombian national team in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.
