The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has terminated the employment of six of its officials following recommendations from the Personnel Management Board.
This decision was fully backed by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission as part of an ongoing effort to maintain discipline within the agency.
In a statement released by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the dismissals.
He stated that the actions were based on “serious misconduct and inefficiencies” identified in the affected officers.
Bakare-Oki explained that the disciplinary measures followed the guidelines set out in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
“We are taking decisive steps to improve the operations of the agency, and this exercise is part of our commitment to ensuring accountability among our personnel,” he said.
The General Manager further assured the public that more disciplinary reviews were underway. “Another Personnel Management Board session will soon be held to address additional cases of misconduct involving other officials,” he added.
Lagos residents were also encouraged to collaborate with LASTMA by reporting any misconduct they observe, along with relevant evidence. “We urge the public to help us by providing feedback and reports on any errant behavior from our officers,” Bakare-Oki said.
He also reminded motorists to adhere strictly to traffic laws, warning that violations would be met with penalties as stipulated by the Lagos State Mobile Courts. Compliance with traffic regulations, he noted, is key to the success of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda, which prioritizes traffic management as part of the “Greater Lagos” vision.
LASTMA remains committed to handling public complaints impartially, and citizens are encouraged to report issues through the agency’s toll-free line or by visiting its complaint center in Oshodi.
“While we are dedicated to enforcing the law, we will also protect the civil rights of all road users in Lagos,” Bakare-Oki concluded.
