Lagos State has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of emergency repairs on the Independence/Mekwen Bridge, which connects motorists to Marina and CMS.
The diversion will take effect from March 19 and continue until May 26, according to the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Oshiyemi.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Oshiyemi explained that the repairs necessitate the closure of key sections of the road.
“The road from the National Open University of Nigeria through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge will be closed to vehicles. Likewise, the service lane at Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge inbound Independence Bridge will not be accessible to motorists,” he stated.
However, he noted that an alternative service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue would remain open for commuters.
To mitigate congestion, the Lagos State government has advised motorists to use alternative routes: Victoria Island-bound motorists from Ahmadu Bello Way should take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Roundabout, and then proceed via Obafemi Awolowo Road to Ring Road.
Drivers heading to the Third Mainland Bridge are advised to follow Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road, and Osborne Road before linking Ring Road.
Commuters traveling to Inner Marina and CMS from Ahmadu Bello Way should use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Roundabout, and Obafemi Awolowo Road to J.K. Randle Road.
Motorists heading to Ahmadu Bello Way from Inner Marina or CMS should use the available access roads.
