The Lagos State Government has taken the measure of closing down a total of eight nightclubs and event venues located in the Ikeja and Victoria Island regions of the state.
In a statement made on Sunday the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, revealed that the establishments were closed by the agency with the primary objective of safeguarding public safety.
He emphasised the dedication of the commission to safeguarding the well-being of individuals and assets, further stating that the commission’s objective is to attain a state of zero incidents in both occupational environments and public establishments.
According to Mojola, it is emphasised that the administration led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu maintains a strict stance against the infringement of safety regulations, and will consistently oversee these establishments to guarantee adherence to established safety protocols.
Recall that Mojola, at a meeting held in Alausa with nightclub operators and event centre owners about two months ago, warned that clubs and event centres allowing the use of drugs and firearms in their facilities would be shut down.
“Some of the facilities that were in contravention include Hot Box Night Club, Shades Night Club, Buzzbar, CCX Lounge and a number of event centres,” the statement added.
Mojola urged all recreational and event centres that have not yet been registered with the safety commission to visit the website www.lasgsafetyreg.com in order to complete their registration process.
Calls and texts to Shades Nightclub, CCX Lounge, and Hot Box Nightclub’s telephone numbers went unanswered, making contact with them impossible.
The supervisor, Buzzbar, who identified herself as Chidinma, however, informed journalists that she was not aware of any club closures.
