The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, carried out an overnight operation on Monday aimed at bolstering security and maintaining public order in Ikoyi and Victoria Island.
The patrol, which covered key locations such as Idowu Martins, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola, Samuel Manuwa, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Lugard Avenue, and Macdonald Road, led to the arrest of 49 individuals involved in illicit activities, including illegal street trading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, commended the efforts of the operatives.
“The dedicated LAGESC patrol team covered strategic areas in Ikoyi and Victoria Island overnight. As a result, 49 miscreants and illegal street traders were apprehended,” Wahab stated.
He emphasized the operation’s objective to improve safety and order in the area. “This exercise reinforces our commitment to creating a secure and orderly environment for residents and businesses alike,” he added.
Wahab also expressed optimism about the impact of the operation. “I am pleased to observe that calm and order are gradually being restored in Ikoyi and Victoria Island,” he noted.
Encouraging residents to contribute to maintaining security, the commissioner urged vigilance and cooperation. “We rely on your proactive support—report any suspicious activity you notice. Together, we can ensure safer communities,” he concluded.
