The Lagos State Police Command has stated that it arrested eight members of two syndicates who had been declared wanted for robberies and snatching of vehicles at gunpoint in Lagos State.
Spokesperson for the Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this disclosure in a statement via his official X on Saturday, noting that some of the suspects were arrested in Lagos.
He stated further that the detectives trailed the rest of the suspects to Iwo, Osun State and Ibadan, Oyo State, where they were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Dayo Afolabi ‘m’ 27, Segun Osoyemi ‘m’ 32, Toheeb Adetunji ‘m’ 29, Tomiwa Okunlola ‘m’ 30, Bashiru Lukmon ‘m’ 22, Usman Hammed ‘m’ 25, Ashiru Usman ‘m’ 24 and Toheeb Oyekunle ‘m’ 32.
Hundeyin noted that the suspects were responsible for the murder of a police officer and stealing of his rifle in Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State on December 9, 2023.
The rifle has since been recovered during the first set of arrests.
Other items recovered from the suspects include: one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, thirty live cartridges and charms.
The PPRO said in the statement that Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, lauded the detectives for a job well done assured Lagosians that the Command will continue to do everything operationally possible towards ensuring their safety.
“Following weeks of discreet and intense investigation, the Lagos State Police Command have finally arrested all eight members of two syndicates who have been wanted for robberies and snatching of vehicles at gunpoint in Lagos State.
“While a few of the suspects were arrested in Lagos State, detectives trailed the rest to Iwo, Osun State and Ibadan, Oyo State where they were arrested. The suspects are: Dayo Afolabi ‘m’ 27, Segun Osoyemi ‘m’ 32, Toheeb Adetunji ‘m’ 29, Tomiwa Okunlola ‘m’ 30, Bashiru Lukmon ‘m’ 22, Usman Hammed ‘m’ 25, Ashiru Usman ‘m’ 24 and Toheeb Oyekunle ‘m’ 32.
