A man identified as Temitope Olowo was given a 14-year prison sentence on Tuesday by a Lagos State High Court in the Tafawa Balewa Square neighbourhood of the state for an attempted robbery.
After a plea agreement application was submitted, Justice Yetunde Adesanya delivered the verdict to the defendant, who was convicted on a single count amended attempted robbery charge.
Olowo was first charged with three counts of arm robbery on November 9, 2018, but he entered a not guilty plea.
The prosecution’s attorney, Olayemi Shofolu, called two witnesses as the trial got underway.
However, the charge was changed as a result of the defendant’s request for a plea bargain deal through his attorney, J. I. Osagede.
The prosecution attorney informed the court about the one-count revised charge when the matter was up for hearing on Tuesday.
The offence was perpetrated on July 26, 2017, at No. 1/3, Akowonjo Street in Lagos, according to Shofolu, who testified in court.
According to him, Olowo attempted to rob Desmond Ifeanyi of his personal goods, in violation of Section 298(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
Olowo admitted to the accusation, and as a result, Justice Adesanya gave Olowo a 14-year prison term after finding him guilty as charged.
She ruled that the punishment would start on October 16, 2017, the day the defendant was remanded, and last for one year.
