Lagos State’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, has called on senior civil servants nearing retirement to actively mentor younger colleagues within their respective ministries, with the aim of promoting positive attitudes and ensuring continued effective service delivery.
According to The PUNCH, Agoro made this statement at the 27th Retirement Benefits Documentation Seminar, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, for public servants set to retire between January 1 and June 30, 2025.
He emphasized the need for outgoing officers to pass on their institutional knowledge before leaving public service.
“Our journey as public servants will inevitably come to an end, but the legacies we leave behind will continue to speak. I encourage you to use your remaining time to mentor your junior colleagues in a way that fosters positive thinking, a growth mindset, and effective service delivery in your respective MDAs,” Agoro said.
He commended the soon-to-be retirees for their commitment and hard work, acknowledging their significant contributions to the state’s public service.
He further praised the Lagos State Pension Commission for providing necessary support to public servants approaching retirement.
“The goal is to provide our retiring officers with detailed information and guidance to ensure a smooth retirement process,” Agoro added, assuring attendees of the state government’s dedication to processing retirement benefits promptly once all necessary documentation is completed.
In his opening remarks, the Director-General of LASPEC, Babalola Obinala, highlighted the importance of the seminar, noting its role in the professional journey of the retiring officers. He encouraged participants to engage actively during the session.
“Your participation is crucial, not only for your own benefit but also for improving our services by learning from your experiences,” Obinala stated.
The seminar, designed to equip retirees with the necessary knowledge for a smooth transition, also provided an opportunity for attendees to share concerns and seek clarifications on their retirement benefits.
