Hoodlums attacked several polling units in the Ajiran area of Agungi, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State on Saturday morning and snatched ballot boxes.
The Punch reported that the hoodlums attacked several polling units, including PU 108, PU 007, PU 028, and others in the area.
As a result of the attack, voter turnout dropped rapidly as people went back home for fear of being attacked.
Speaking to The Punch, a resident who was flogged by the hoodlums said, “I was trying to cast my vote when the thugs invaded my polling unit.
“They said I can’t vote if I’m not voting for the All Progressives Congress. They started flogging me and beating me.”
According to the victims who preferred to be anonymous, the hoodlums were made up of about 20 men and women.
Another resident, Bayo, disclosed that the violence erupted between 9 am and 10 am, causing a significant drop in the number of voters who participated in the election.
In his words, “We are still calling our people around to come out and vote as the military has arrived, and things have settled now.”
The chairman of one of the estates in the area tried to reason with the hoodlums and urge them to stop harassing and intimidating the voters but was slapped by the hoodlums.
It was reported that three military vans with armed soldiers have arrived in the area, and peace has been restored.
