The Federal Road Safety Corps has admonished motorists plying Lagos-Badagry expressway against overloading and speed during the ember months.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the warning was given by the Badagry Unit Commander, FRSC, Mr Williams Manga, during a sensitisation programme organised for drivers of the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria.
“We have to call you here today to sensitise you all on how to ensure safety throughout the ember months and after.
“By now, we all know that speed limit violations and overloading are responsible for major causes of road crashes on Badagry expressway.
“We should all ensure that we have functioning brake, wipers and good tyres to avoid traffic road crash.
“I am imploring you all to ensure you always respect obligation of human life by obeying the rules of the roads.
“Do not overload your water trucks with goods and passengers, it is dangerous,” he advised.
Manga urged “pure water” drivers to undergo the proper process of acquiring genuine driver’s licences to avoid being arrested on the roads.
He called on the drivers to also avoid using expired or fairly used tyres on their vehicles because it could lead to road crash.
In his reaction, the ATWAP Chairman, Badagry zone, Mr Isaac Obadairo, promised that the drivers would adhere to all the instructions given to them by the unit commander.
“We have heard what you said, this is for us to stay alive and healthy.
“We are going to comply with all instructions and directives given to us today.
“This is the first time we are meeting you since they posted you to Badagry unit command and we will surely cooperate with your personnel to ensure safety on highway,” he said.
Obadaira also assured Manga that his members would continue to follow due process in acquiring genuine driver’s licences.
