The Lagos State Building Control Agency has evacuated residents from a dangerously distressed structure in the Gbagada area of the state.
The agency confirmed the evacuation of the occupants in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
According to LASBCA, the building, located at No. 5 Estapor Avenue, Sholuyi, Gbagada, in the Kosofe Local Government Area, exhibited severe structural damage.
The evacuation was deemed necessary due to the imminent risk posed by the dilapidated state of the property.
The agency stated, “In its ongoing efforts to mitigate the risk of building collapses in Lagos, the Lagos State Building Control Agency today evacuated occupants from a critically distressed structure… The evacuation was deemed necessary to prevent an imminent collapse and ensure the safety of the lives and properties of the occupants.”
Images shared by LASBCA revealed extensive damage to the building, with large cracks visible on its walls.
This evacuation follows the recent collapse of a two-storey building in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos earlier in the week.
Despite having been served eviction notices, some residents reportedly refused to vacate the premises before the structure gave way.
The Lagos State government has been intensifying efforts to address the issue of building safety, as cases of structural failures have remained a significant concern in the city.
