The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, has sentenced the Medical Director of the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr. Olufemi Olaleye, to life imprisonment for defiling his wife’s niece.
He was sentenced by Justice Rahman Oshodi after he was found guilty of defilement and sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl.
The judge ruled that the prosecution was able to establish its case beyond a reasonable doubt and that the victim’s testimony was corroborated by all of the evidence presented in court.
The Lagos State Government preferred two charges against Olaleye that bordered on defilement and sexual assault by penetration of his wife’s niece.
The defendant was formally charged on November 30, 2022, and entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Martins, it was said in court that Olaleye had engaged in the aforementioned charges over the period spanning from February 2020 to November 2021.
According to the individual, the incident occurred at the address of No 17, Layi Ogunbambi close, in the state of Lagos, Nigeria.
Olaleye faced allegations of engaging in non-consensual sexual intercourse with his wife’s niece, who was 15 years of age.
The individual in question faced allegations of engaging in sexual assault, namely involving the act of oral penetration with his penis and a youngster.
The prosecution contends that the actions done are in violation of Sections 137 and 261 of the criminal legislation of Lagos State in the year 2015.
After entering a plea of not guilty, the defendant was granted bail by Justice Oshodi in the amount of N50m. The bail conditions include two sureties, each having landed property located in Lagos state.
The presiding judge issued an order mandating that both sureties are required to furnish proof of tax remittances to the Lagos state government throughout the preceding three-year period.
Justice Oshodi additionally mandated that Olaleye is required to surrender his international passport, including his British passport, as well as the original documentation pertaining to his landed property, to the court’s registrar.
During the court proceedings, Aderemi Olaleye, the spouse of the defendant, provided testimony indicating that her husband had engaged in sexual abuse against her niece while the latter was residing with them.
During her testimony, the witness stated that the perpetrator initially exposed the victim to explicit material and engaged in oral sexual activity, resulting in the ejection of seminal fluid into her oral cavity.
According to her account, the duration of the event spanned from March 2020 to July 2021.
During the court proceedings, the witness provided a statement to Justice Oshodi, indicating that the young girl admitted to a family member and their chauffeur that the doctor had engaged in sexual relations with her. Furthermore, the witness reported that the girl claimed the doctor had threatened to harm both her and the witness if they disclosed this information to anybody.
The mother of two, who is the complainant said on oath, “My lord, on November 27, 2021, my second cousin told my aunty who is my mother’s sister that since March 2020 Femi has been sexually abusing her and introduced her to pornography, from there he graduated to oral sex with her, that he does this in different places in the home where there are no cameras.”
