66 people involved in the train-bus collision disaster have been treated and released from five state public health facilities, according to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.
In a situation update about the disaster on Wednesday in Lagos, Abayomi made this disclosure.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the state released 53 accident victims from three state hospitals on March 10 and March 12.
Abayomi said that during a two-stage triage that was successful, none of the accident survivors suffered any further fatalities.
He said; “Back-to-back surgeries are being conducted on patients that needed surgeries at LASUTH to ensure everyone is discharged as soon as possible
“Total number of patients on admission as of today, March 15, is 30.
“There are 26 patients at LASUTH, two at General Hospital, Odan-Lagos, and another two at General Hospital, Gbagada.
“The total number of passengers discharged as of today is 66,” he added.
Abayomi revealed that the fatalities from the tragedy remain six, including two who died at the scene and four who died while receiving resuscitation at LASUTH.
It was reported that at PWD Bus-Stop along Agege Motor Road, a train collided with a Lagos State Government employee bus transporting public servants from Isolo to Alausa.
102 people were involved in the tragedy, including the 85 passengers on board the bus and the 17 people who were involved in the catastrophic event.
The accident victims were transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for medical attention on March 9 around 7.30 a.m.
Survivors were admitted to and treated at LASUTH with varied degrees of injuries and life-threatening circumstances.
To further their care and decongest LASUTH, 25 patients with mild injuries were eventually sent to three general hospitals and the Trauma Center, Tollgate.
