A court in Lagos, on Friday, remanded five men for allegedly killing a police officer in Lagos.
According to a report by Daily Post, the defendants, Shakiru Shittu, 48, Kadir Shonoki, 38, Shadiku Adeola, 43, TaofeekA Aluko, 38 and Adekunle Onasanya, 37, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The Sabo Yaba Chief Magistrate, Peter Nwaka, who rejected the pleas of the accused ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Good Friday, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 6 at Emuren Junction, Ikorodu, Lagos.
He explained that the defendant killed the assistant inspector of police, Mathew Aniaguru while on official duty.
On how the officer was killed, he said that the defendants shot and killed the officer and took his AK-47 rifle with 10 rounds of ammunition, adding that police later raided and arrested the defendants.
The prosecutor then urged the court to give the police 30 days to carry out further investigation.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case to May 31 for mention.
