The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that during the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, there will be restriction of movement in the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I only and not every part of the commercial city as erroneously speculated.
State Command Public Relations Officer, SP Hundeyin, made this known in a statement posted on his X on Friday.
Hundeyin stated this while providing further clarification on the restriction order imposed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun on Thursday.
Egbetokun had on Thursday imposed restrictions on movements – from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm, n areas in 26 states of the federation where by-elections and run-off polls are set to be held on Saturday.
Reacting to this, the PPRO noted that the restriction only applies to the Surulere area of the state where the poll is expected to take place and not all parts of the commercial city as speculated in some quarters.
“This is to announce to the general public that during the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, there will be restriction of movement in the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I only.
“However, Funsho Williams Avenue will be free for passage only. Movement into and out of feeder roads off Funsho Williams Avenue will not be permitted.
“For other parts of Lagos State, there is absolutely no restriction of movement”, the spokesperson wrote
The Surulere Federal Constituency 1 position became vacant after President Bola Tinubu appointed a former Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila – who clinched the post in the 2023 elections – as his chief of staff.
