Speaker of the Lagos State House of the Lagos State Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has officially stepped down from her position as the leadership crisis within the legislative chamber continues to unfold.
Her resignation, however, has not resolved the internal turmoil, as the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has left the Assembly and the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress leadership divided.
Before announcing her decision to step down, several lawmakers took turns to commend Meranda for her legislative contributions, diligence, and leadership during her brief tenure.
Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot praised her stewardship, stating, “You demonstrated good leadership and led the House well.”
Similarly, lawmaker Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I lauded her efforts, describing her as a symbol of democracy. “We celebrate you for your quality service. You are a heroine of democracy. You came, you saw, you conquered. You are a victim of circumstance. This House is in tears,” he said.
She was demoted as the deputy speaker of the house, while nomination for a new speaker is currently on at the floor of the assembly.
More to come…
