Jorge Sampaoli has been sacked as the head coach of Spanish club side, Sevilla.
His dismissal was announced by the club in a press statement through its official website on Tuesday.
“Following the defeat at Getafe, which leaves the side just above the relegation zone, the club have decided to part ways with the Argentine coach ahead of the international break.”
“Sevilla FC would like to thank Jorge Sampaoli for his dedication and commitment at the club and wish him the best of luck in his future.”
Sevilla hired the former Chile and Argentina coach in October, but the team has been unable to improve upon its dismal mid-table performance.
In 31 games during his second term with the club, Sampaoli presided over 13 victories, six draws, and 12 losses.
With 28 points, Sevilla is two points behind Getafe, who they lost to 2-0 on Sunday, and Almeria, who are currently occupying two of the three relegation spots. They are also two points ahead of Getafe.
Sevilla, which has won the Europa League a record six times, will play Manchester United in the tournament’s quarterfinals next month.
