The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has subsidised the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination fees for 55,150 students in public schools across the state by half.
The Press Secretary of the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, made this known in a statement, noting that parents would now pay N2,500 against the hitherto N5,000 as the balance has now been offset by the state government.
“The subsidy is part of the efforts of the administration to support the students and their parents as well as avoid any student dropping out of school on account of the inability to afford the examination,” Amogbonjaye said.
He explained that the subsidies will be enjoyed by all the candidates that will sit for this year 2024 BECE.
Amogbonjaye then warned public officials from extorting money from parents under any guise.
He said, “anyone caught will face the consequences of such an action.”
