The Kwara State Police Command, has revealed that it is yet to receive an official report on the rumoured ban imposed by the Majlisu Shabab li Ulamahu Society, a Muslim group, on the upcoming Isese Festival in four local government areas of the state.
Some members of the organisation reportedly barged into the Ilorin home of one Yeye Adesikemi Olokun Omolara Olatunji to discourage her from arranging the event, as reported by The PUNCH.
According to the flyers, Olokun had announced a three-day festival honouring various Yoruba deities.
The Muslim group claimed they were following the orders of Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin, by not letting Olokun and the others damage the town.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi Jeffrey, stated that the command is yet to be notified of the warning but will find out the crux of the matter.
He said, “Kwara Police Command has not received any official report from any citizens concerning the warning to Yeye Olokun you referred to.”
Ajayi also reaffirmed the swift steps taken by the command in response to the ban in an effort to avoid a confrontation between the Muslim community and the Traditionalists in the state.
“We are firmly on ground to forestall any security breach that could happen,” he assured.
