The Kwara State Government has revoked the multi-billion-dollar contract for the construction of the Information Communication Technology Innovation Hub from the initial contractor.
This was disclosed by the Director, Personnel Finance and Supply in the state Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology, Amos Tunde Thompson, in Ilorin during the official handover of the project to the new contractor.
The project, which was awarded by the state government two years ago, was re-awarded to another contractor known as MC&T Limited.
The revocation of the contract by the former contractor might not be unconnected to the slow pace of work.
While noting that the project was already at 80 percent completion, he charged the new contractor to align with all relevant stakeholders without compromising, with the aim of actualizing the vision and mission of the state governor.
Amos revealed that the aim of establishing the Innovation Hub was to expand the structure of ICT in the state, adding that it would further enhance and give room for existing and potential ICT investors to thrive in the state.
He said that the establishment of the project would create thousands of jobs for both women and youths across the production value chain, increase the state’s internally generated revenue, and also strengthen the state economy.
Responding, the Director of the Project, Alhaji AbdulSalam, expressed gratitude to the state government for awarding the contract to the company and assured of the solid and timely delivery of the project.
