King Charles III has offered words of encouragement to the England national team following their heartbreaking loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
In a heartfelt message conveyed to Coach Gareth Southgate, the King expressed understanding of the profound disappointment felt after coming so close to victory.
“While tonight’s outcome may not have been what you hoped for, my wife and I, along with my entire family, stand with you and your team in solidarity,” King Charles stated. “Those who have participated in sports at any level know the agony of such a near miss. We extend our deepest sympathies, even as we extend our congratulations to Spain
Reflecting on the team’s achievement in reaching the final, King Charles emphasized the pride it brings to the nation.
“To reach the European Championship final is a significant accomplishment, one that fills our nation with pride,” he remarked.
He expressed confidence in the team’s future successes, stating, “This achievement is a testament to the strength of the Three Lions, and I have no doubt that greater triumphs await.”
Sunday night saw England succumb to a 2-1 defeat against Spain, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the decisive goal in the closing minutes at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.
Nico Williams had earlier put Spain ahead, only for Cole Palmer to equalize for England in the 73rd minute before Spain secured victory late in the game.
