Kidnapped Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Tony Azegbemi has regained freedom after eleven days in the hands of his abductors.
Aziegbemi was said to have arrived his residence at about 3am.
The news of his release was broken by Senator Odion Ugbesia at about 6.17 am on Tuesday but it could not be confirmed whether ransom was paid or not before he was released.
While speaking on his mobile phone early Tuesday morning, the PDP chairman said that he was happy to be back home with his family.
“I am back home with my family. I am fine. I am just trying to rest and will talk to you later,” he said.
The circumstances surrounding his release were, however, still murky as at the time of filing this report.
When contacted,nEdo State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, who spoke on his mobile phone, simply advised journalists to wait for an official police statement.
“Wait for the official police statement,” Nwanbuzor, told curious newsmen.
Aziegbemi was kidnapped on the 16th of March, 2024 by gang of armed men a few metres from his residence off the Government Reservation Area in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
He was said to have been trailed by the hoodlums who were said to be in two Toyota Corolla cars, overtook his jeep along Odaro Street off Country Home road close to his house at about 11 pm Friday.
