The lifeless body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, has been discovered near the Second Niger Bridge.
Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, while returning home for Christmas, was found by security operatives during a routine patrol on Thursday.
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, stating that a joint security team comprising police officers and operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group had been on a rescue mission when they made the grim discovery
“In the early hours of today, February 6, 2025, at the Second Niger Bridge, the Joint Security Team, comprising police and AVG operatives, regrettably found his lifeless body,” Ikenga said.
He added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the lawmaker’s death. “As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated. The joint security team has taken over the scene, and operations are ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved,” he said.
Azuka, a chieftain of the Labour Party, had reclaimed his seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly after a court ruling nullified the election of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was initially declared the winner of the 2023 election.
His abduction on Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha had sparked widespread concern, as reports indicated that he was taken at gunpoint in an operation that lasted less than five minutes.
