The Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have apprehended a 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old boy.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this development was announced by the Spokesman for the State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, during a press briefing on Wednesday in Katsina.
Aliyu said, “On August 17, at about 2pm, based on credible intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting Halilu Yusuf, 21, of Gezawa, via Shinkafi village, in connection with a suspected case of kidnapping a six-year-old.”
The suspect, reportedly a mentee of the victim’s father, lured the boy from Kofar-Sauri quarters and demanded a N2 million ransom from the boy’s father.
Aliyu disclosed that Yusuf initially kept the child in his room before relocating him to another location, unaware that police operatives were closely monitoring his movements.
He explained that the suspect made an anonymous call to inform the father of his son’s abduction, prompting swift action from the police.
“Upon receipt of the report, the command quickly mobilised the operatives led by the DPO GRA, Katsina and swung into action. The team successfully traced and arrested the suspect, and the victim was rescued unhurt,” he said.
Aliyu further stated that Yusuf confessed to the crime during interrogation. The suspect will face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
