Kano State, Jigawa and Sokoto State have been chosen a recipients of the newly launched European Union-funded education and empowerment initiative in Nigeria.
The program’s objective is to enhance the accessibility of safe, inclusive, and relevant learning opportunities and skill development for both girls and boys in Kano, Jigawa, and Sokoto states.
The Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Enlightenment issued a statement to newsmen, confirming this development.
During a briefing with the state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji and Umar Doguwa, on Tuesday, Mr. Michael Banda, the team leader from the United Nations Children’s Fund, disclosed details about the program.
He also stated that Kano is the primary recipient of the funding.
“The programme is aimed to benefit about 1.2 million learners, 5,000 teachers, 150 education officials and 5,400 community members in different areas of educational intervention.
“The programme operation is categorized into three main outputs which involve strengthened education governance and learning, expanded access to safe and inclusive learning environment and giving quality, continuous learning and enhanced competencies,” he explained.
Abanda emphasized the evolving landscape shaped by digital technology, underscoring the necessity for a systematic approach to education.
He highlighted the importance of providing digital training to both teachers and learners.
Abanda emphasized that for the introduction of digital technology to effectively transform the education sector, full involvement and training are imperative for teachers, learners, and ministry officials alike.
“Not only that, under this programme, we are proposing to empower and capacitate some education committees like Schools Based Management Committee as part of our effort to reinforce community partnership towards developing the standard of education ” he added.
