The Kano State Hisbah Board has declared Auwal Sankara, the suspended Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa, wanted for failing to honour an invitation for reconciliation.
The invitation was part of the conditions of his bail following a controversial incident involving Sankara and a woman.
The Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa made the announcement while addressing journalists.
According to Daurawa, Sankara violated his bail agreement by not appearing for a reconciliation session scheduled for Monday, despite multiple reminders.
“Sankara was released on bail with the understanding that he would appear before the board whenever called upon,” Daurawa said. “However, today he refused to comply with our request.”
The board’s goal was to mediate between Sankara and the complainant, Nasiru Bulama, due to their shared responsibility for two children. Daurawa noted that Sankara’s attendance could have prevented further legal action.
“We had an agreement for reconciliation. If Sankara had appeared today, we wouldn’t need to take the matter to court,” Daurawa explained.
“But his absence shows he has no intention of resolving the issue, so we will proceed with legal action.”
The Hisbah chief also revealed that Sankara was arrested alongside a woman in an earlier incident, during which she reportedly injured five Hisbah officers while attempting to flee in her car.
Daurawa said they have video evidence of the incident and had made several attempts to contact Sankara on the day of the meeting.
“I personally called him multiple times today, and he assured me he would attend,” Daurawa stated. “Later, he switched off his phone. We have now declared him wanted, and our operatives will arrest him wherever he is found.”
Speaking after the press conference, Bulama expressed disappointment over Sankara’s failure to appear. He said he had agreed to the reconciliation for the sake of his two sons, but since Sankara had refused to cooperate, the matter would now be resolved in court.
