The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Graft Commission, Muhuyi Magaji, has been arraigned for a 10-count charge of corruption at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.
The charges, including breach of the code of conduct, conflict of interest, abuse of office, false asset declaration, bribery, and accepting gifts, were brought against him on November 17.
Allegations stated he didn’t disclose certain bank accounts with N394 million, raising suspicion of corruption.
Despite the charges, Magaji was granted bail at N5 million with two FCT property-owning sureties. The case is adjourned till January 10, 2024.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau initiated investigations into Magaji’s tenure during the former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration.
Previously, Magaji had been investigating Ganduje for alleged corruption in connection with a viral video showing the ex-governor purportedly receiving kickbacks in dollars from a contractor.
Magaji vowed to thoroughly investigate the video and hold Ganduje accountable if found guilty.
In correspondence obtained by our correspondent, the EFCC summoned the PCACC’s Director of Finance and Accounts for an interview at its Abuja headquarters on August 29. Simultaneously, the CCB requested documents pertaining to Magaji’s tenure, specifically financial records and details of forfeited properties.
“He should come along with the following information; Details of total funds released to your office by the Office of the Accountant General of Kano state from 2019 to 2021 fiscal year.
“Details of total funds released to your office by the Kano State Ministry of Local Government from 2019 to 2021 including contracts executed and details of beneficiary accounts,” he stated.
