The Kaduna State Police Command on Monday announced that its operatives have busted a rail line vandalism operation, while also impounding a conveyance truck.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed through a press statement by DSP Muhammad Jalige, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer.
Jalige stated that, based on solid intelligence, command personnel apprehended a gang of rail line vandals on June 22 at approximately 22:30 hours.
“An unspecified number of unknown persons came to Sanzwan in Zonkwa, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, in an articulated vehicle (DAF) with reg no DAL 172 YL and vandalised about 600 pieces of railway sleepers.
“On receipt of the information, Police personnel were quickly mobilised to the scene of the crime. On sighting the Police officers, the suspects fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle meant to convey the vandalised items,” he said.
According to the PPRO, no arrests have been made thus far, however on June 25, two additional trucks fully filled with railway footwear were discovered.
He stated that efforts had been increased to apprehend the fugitive individuals while an investigation was underway.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Garba, commended the gallant personnel for halting the vandals’ activities while charging the public to always make credible information available on time,” Jalige said.
