Kaduna State police command has released not fewer than 67 vehicles including tricycles and motorcycles which were seized from some members of Shi’its to the Islamic group.
Shi’its is an Islamic group whose vehicles were seized by the police in 2015.
The handing over of the vehicles, according to PMnews, complied with the judgment of the court in the suit filed on Dec. 15 2021, the plaintiffs (Mohammed-Auwal Yakubu and 77 others) who are members of the Shi’ite group filed a writ of Summons against the Commissioner of Police and Attorney-General of Kaduna State.
Also, the writ was hinged on an order of the Kaduna State High Court directing the defendants to release to the plaintiffs their respective vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles.
Counsel for the plaintiffs, Mr Mark Abu affirmed the handing over of the vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles to his clients in compliance with the court order.
“We were at the MTD Police Station Zaria to witness the release of movable properties of my clients. On Nov. 9, 2022, Justice Amina Bello of the Kaduna State High Court entered judgment in favour of me, and my clients on the strength of the affidavit evidence and exhibits.
“After obtaining the judgment, the order of the court was served on the commissioner of police who is the first defendant in the case,” he said.
He said that the commissioner minuted the order to the Area Commander, Zaria who subsequently directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the MTD police station to release the vehicles.
The council, however, noted that the number of vehicles filed was more than that seen at the police station.
the police officer who supervised the release of the vehicles to the plaintiffs declined comments on the matter on the grounds that he was not authorized to do so.
