Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Wednesday officially unveiled a 200-hectare housing initiative in New Millennium City, in collaboration with Urban Shelter.
According to The PUNCH, this ambitious project aims to provide affordable housing for the state’s poor, vulnerable, and underserved populations, reflecting the administration’s dedication to reducing the housing deficit in Kaduna.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by his Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, Governor Sani underscored the significance of housing as a crucial element of human dignity, not merely as a physical structure.
He highlighted that addressing the housing needs of citizens remains a top priority for his administration, and the launch of this project is part of a broader, comprehensive strategy.
Sani elaborated on the steps taken to tackle the housing crisis, including fostering partnerships with both local and international investors, launching a Social Housing Scheme, and bolstering the Public Housing Corporation.
He expressed confidence that the new project would significantly impact the lives of Kaduna’s residents and reaffirm the government’s dedication to social responsibility.
He emphasized, “Housing is not merely a structure; it is a fundamental pillar of human dignity. Access to safe, affordable, and secure housing is essential for every citizen.”
Acknowledging the role of Urban Shelter, he said, “Our collaboration with both local and international investors has been pivotal in addressing our housing challenges head-on. I commend Urban Shelter for recognizing the potential of Kaduna State and prioritizing it in your investment strategy. Your commendable efforts in developing over 25 hectares of land in Millennium City, both Phase I and II, have paved the way for this new 200 hectares housing project under a Development Lease Agreement with the Kaduna State Government.”
The new development is expected to bring substantial improvements to the housing situation in the state, aligning with the government’s broader goals of enhancing social welfare and quality of life for its citizens.
