The Zazzau, also know as Zaria Emirate in Kaduna State has announced the passing of Hajia Habiba Shehu, the senior wife of the late Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Shehu Idris.
The sad news was shared through the Emirate’s official and verified Facebook page on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Hajia Habiba Shehu passed away in the early hours of Friday after a brief illness, marking the end of a life that spanned 79 years.
The announcement emphasized the Emirate’s deep sense of loss, stating, “It is with total submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that we announce the death of Hajia Habiba Shehu Idris. She died in the early hours of today after a brief illness.”
Hajia Habiba was not only the senior wife of the late Emir, but she was also a beloved mother and matriarch.
Her children include notable figures such as Danruwata Babban Zazzau, Alhaji Bello Shehu Idris; Dan Isan Zazzau, Alhaji Umar Shehu Idris; and Princess Maryam Shehu Idris, who is married to the current Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.
The statement from the Emirate further detailed the funeral arrangements, stating, “Funeral rites for the late Hajiya will take place immediately after Jumma’at prayers (2:15 PM) at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria.”
The message concluded with a prayer for the departed soul, expressing the collective grief and hope of the community, “May her gentle soul rest in Jannatul Firdausi, Ameen.”
Hajia Habiba Shehu’s death marks the end of an era, as she was deeply connected to the history and leadership of the Zazzau Emirate.
Her passing is not only a loss to her immediate family but also to the entire Zaria community, who held her in high regard.
