Kaduna emirate suspends title holder who flogged alleged homosexual
The Zazzau Emirate Council, Kaduna State, has suspended the Marafan Yamman Zazzau, Alhaji Mustapha Adamu, for flogging an alleged homosexual in the ancient city of Zaria in the state.
According to The PUNCH, this was announced in a statement released by the Council’s Information and Communications Officer, Abdullahi Aliyu, noting tha the indefinite suspension of the title holder, was with immediate effect.
In the statement, Aliyu explained that the suspension was a result of the Marafan Yamman Zazzau’s taking laws into his hands by flogging one Yusuf Yahaya (SABO) of Unguwan Magajiya Zaria City with sixty strokes of the cane.
It warned that Zazzau Emirate would not tolerate infringement on laws and orders from any traditional title holder in the community, admonishing traditional title holders to always refer cases before them to the appropriate authorities for hearing rather than taking the laws into their hands.
The emirate assured the general public that it won’t take any act of injustice by traditional title holders against its subject lightly.
Meanwhile Mustapha Adamu, who until his suspension, was the Ubaidullah Marafan Yamman Zazzau, told newsmen he disciplined Yusuf Yahaya (SABO) with 60 lashes because he caught him having carnal knowledge with a “small boy” behind his residence.

Surprised over his suspension, he stressed that he expected the emirate council to refer him to the constituted authority for violating the Laws rather than the suspension order slammed on him.
He justified his action, noting that the culprit is “his son” and that he had the right to discipline him when he “goes wrong.”
The Ubaidullah Marafan Yamman Zazzau, however, accused some members of the emirate council of fueling the matter.
