Kaduna Electric firm has arrested a suspected electricity thief named Opafola Abiodun.
According to The PUNCH, the suspect was arrested during a nighttime operation conducted by the firm on November 24.
The company disclosed this in a statement issued by Abdulaziz Abdullahi, the Head of Corporate Communications, on Thursday.
Allegedly, Abiodun was illicitly extracting electricity from the 11KV Leventis Feeder and was discovered using an external bypass on meter number 04190482713.
According to the Head of Unit, Non-MD Metering, Mr. U.A. Gumel, Abiodun had his power supply disconnected on Sept. 28 due to non-payment and owed ₦104,823.
Gumel mentioned that a booking letter, acknowledged by Abubakar with GSM: 07056646853 on November 29, serves as legal confirmation of the charges.
He further highlighted that instead of settling the outstanding amount, Abiodun had engaged in unauthorized reconnection, primarily during the evening and nighttime hours.
“Surveillance personnel on a routine monitoring operation caught him red-handed on November 24; prompt action was taken, and the matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.
“The case is currently under the jurisdiction of Kaduna Electric’s security unit, preparing for prosecution.
“In response to the repeated offences, a second charge of ₦92,774.39 has been booked against the accused.
It stated that the incident underscored Kaduna Electric’s unwavering commitment to stopping illegal activities within its service area and ensuring a fair and lawful distribution of electricity to all customers.”
