The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Health Care Professionals have announced a seven-day warning strike set to begin at midnight on Friday.
The PUNCH reported that the decision was confirmed by the union’s National Chairman, Kabiru Minijibir, during a press briefing in Abuja.
Minijibir outlined several key demands that the union expects the government to address.
These include the swift implementation of the consolidated health salary structure and the payment of a twenty-five percent arrears review spanning June to December 2023.
Additionally, the union is calling for an upward revision of the retirement age for health workers, tax exemptions on healthcare allowances, and the immediate disbursement of COVID-19 inducement hazard allowances, among other critical issues.
The announcement follows a fifteen-day notice issued to the Federal Government earlier, warning of the impending industrial action.
According to Minijibir, the strike is a collective effort to ensure that health workers’ concerns are addressed, emphasizing that all members nationwide should fully comply with the directive.
The union was in the process of mobilizing its members across Nigeria for this seven-day warning strike, scheduled to commence at midnight on October 25, 2024.
The action represents a united front from health sector workers to press the government to meet their demands after repeated attempts to resolve these issues through negotiations.
